3 Ways to Practice Self-Care

Self-care enhances our well-being. The following are three ways to practice self-care:

1. Observe your breath. Focusing on your breath is a great way to practice self-care. Allocate at least five minutes each day to notice your breath.

As you focus, your main objective is to simply observe how you breathe. The point here is not to change the depth of your breath or judge, it’s just to notice. Pay attention to how the air feels going in through your noise. Watch your chest rise and fall with each inhale and exhale.

In addition to setting aside time to do this on a daily basis, it is also a useful exercise whenever you feel anxious or overwhelmed. Since your breath is a great anchor, this is an ideal way to restore a sense of calm and well-being.

2. Do something you love. Whether it’s spending time in nature, reading, listening to music, watching movies, exercising, dancing, or hanging out with friends or family, if you love it, do it.

Make it a priority to do more of what you love in your life. The more you participate in enjoyable activities, the more refreshed and vibrant you’ll feel on a regular and consistent basis.

3. Honor your intuition. Have you ever had a time when you felt an inner nudge to take a break or a nap but you chose to “push through” and “work harder”? What happened? Typically, when we don’t listen to our inner guidance, it doesn’t end well.

Fortunately, one of the best ways you can care for yourself is by listening to your inner guidance. You ultimately know what’s best for you. When you honor those nudges, life is easier, and you will experience a greater sense of inner peace.
